Coventry City Council which has nearly 600 wheelchair accessible taxis in operation in the City made the decision to adopt the new Mercedes Vito taxi into its fleet on 15th October.
The new Mercedes taxi, had been approved by the Public Carriage Office in London since the end of June, and has been widely acclaimed by the growing band of customers and passengers. Commenting on the decision in Coventry, Roy McMaster, Head of Sales and Marketing at one80 which is responsible for designing and making the new Mercedes Taxis in Coventry, says:
"Getting the new Mercedes Taxi licensed in Coventry is naturally a major step forward for us. Coventry is a not only a key market for taxis but it is also the home to the UK’s motor manufacturing industry. We are very proud to be based in Coventry and continue its proud heritage and its centre of the taxi manufacturing industry. The new Mercedes will raise standards in driver comfort, safety and specification which will ensure that it will become a familiar sight on the streets of Coventry in the not too distant future. However, one of our main priorities is to ensure we can set up the best service support for taxi drivers in Coventry and we are currently in the process of appointing and training a network of specialist service dealers throughout the UK to ensure we give the highest standards of after sales care in any of the key markets where we will sell our new Mercedes Vito taxi."
In London, KPM UK Taxis, who have been appointed as a specialist Mercedes dealer to sell and service the new Mercedes Taxi have reported excellent reaction and a very high standard of customer satisfaction. Steve McCarthy, Sales and Marketing Director at KPM says:
"The new Mercedes Taxi has everything a cab driver would expect in a taxi which bears the Mercedes brand name – quality, refinement, incredible comfort and a lot of extras. Here at KPM we will be aiming to match this with our own high standards of service support."
